Portrait Sketch (via Sktchy)

So a few days ago I posted a portrait sketch and wrote about the app Sktchy.  I am still enjoy the app and I am beginning to build up a collection of inspiration photos in my queue.  Below is my latest sketch (via Sktchy).

I’ve got to say this guy was a blast to draw.  The facial expression was too good to pass up.  I struggled a bit with the beard, and there’s a lot of it!  I nearly ruined the sketch with a miserable attempt to add his hair to the sketch.  In the end I had no choice but to cover it up with black ink but, I think the sketch still works.

Pen and Ink Portrait (Inspiration via Sktchy)

A few weeks ago I thought I would download the Sktchy App and see what it was about.  If you haven’t heard of Sktchy I would suggest that you visit the Apple App Store or https://www.sktchy.com and check it out (Currently, I think the app is only available for iOS devices).  To me, Sktchy is similar to Instagram.  Only, it’s completely oriented towards artist.  The app is a place where you can view the art and inspiration of others, as well as, share your own.  Inspiration within the app comes from photos (often selfies) uploaded from other Sktchy users.  If you create art based on another user’s inspiration you can link to the inspiration photo when posting your art.  People viewing you art can simply swipe right to see the inspiration photo.

Anyway here is my latest sketch.  It is based on inspiration that I found via Sktchy.

Pen and Ink Pine Cone Study

To me, one of the main indicators that Autumn has arrived is pine cones.  I pick up a few arm fulls each year to use a fire starters for the cold evenings when we decide to warm our home with a fire.  Autumn is, by far, my favorite season of the year.  I always look forward to the crisp and cool air, the brilliant colors of the leaves, and it is also my favorite time of year to stretch my legs on a good hike in the mountains.

I wanted to produce another pen and ink sketch today.  So I decided to sketch a pine cone.

Pen and Ink Gorilla Study

I am trying to keep some momentum going since Inktober has came to an end.  I intend to keep churning out sketches on a somewhat regular basis.  The medium that I choose may vary slightly from post to post and I currently don’t have any idea what direction the subject matter may go in.  However, I do intend to keep producing work.  Participating in Inktober taught me that I needed to stop being so concerned with what I draw and just simply DRAW.  So that’s what I intend to do.

Inktober – Day 31

Inktober Day 31, Mask.

Yes, I realize Inktober ended yesterday.  However, I had Daddy duty on Halloween and wasn’t able to get in the final sketch.  So, please forgive the tardiness.
This was my first Inktober and I’ve got to say…Man, It was Awesome!!!  I can’t believe I was hesitant to take on this challenge.  I feel like I have really grown as a result of participating.  I enjoyed viewing the work of others as much as creating my own.  There are some truly skilled people out there creating art.
The support and feedback that I received from my fellow bloggers during this challenge was encouraging and greatly appreciated.  There are two individuals that stand out as being both motivating and supportive.  So I would like to give a shout-out to Steve at stevekiddart.com and Nitesh at Sketches By Nitesh.  These guys really motivated me to press on.  I would not have even attempted the challenge if it hadn’t been for the nudging I received from Nitesh during an exchange of comments just days before the challenge began on October 1st.  Thanks guys!

Inktober – Day 30

Inktober Day 30, Found.

cairn
/kern/
noun
cairn is a human-made pile (or stack) of stones.  Cairns are used as trail markers in many parts of the world.
For today’s sketch I drew a vertical stack of stones (cairn) that I found marking where the trail crossed a small stream on one of my hikes.  I thought it fit today’s prompt of found quite well.  Since they are used as landmarks and trail markers.

Inktober – Day 26

In case you haven’t noticed, I have missed a few days this week.  The reason for this is the town I live in experienced an EF-1 tornado late Monday afternoon.  As a result we lost power for about 2 1/2 days.  We were lucky and only inconvenienced by the power outage.  Other homes and businesses suffered moderate damage and I hope they are able to recover quickly.

My eyes simply aren’t good enough to draw by candle light so I was forced to take a break.  I may go back and make up for some of the days that I missed.  Especially if the prompt leads to an interesting idea.

Anyway, on to today’s sketch.

Inktober Day 26, Squeak.  Will a squeaky water valve work?
