Backyard Visitors…

This morning I hosted a trio of visitors in my backyard.  I noticed them as I was pouring my coffee.  I grabbed my camera and snuck out the front door, carefully making my way towards the backyard.  I didn’t want to startle my unexpected visitors.

I shot these photos at a distance, the deer were standing at the edge of the woods in a heavily shaded area.  I was standing in bright sunlight.  The bulk of the shots were too blurry to post.  I did manage to steady my camera enough to get at least one decent shot.  As I stated before I was standing a good distance from them.  This photo was shot with my Canon 75-300 “kit” lens so the image quality isn’t the best.

Unexpected Magic During The Morning Commute…

As I’ve mentioned before I live in a rural area in the Foothills of northwestern North Carolina.  Each weekday I commute about 35 miles south to a nearby town for work.  The drive takes about 40 minutes and takes me through mostly rural farmland.

As commutes go, I consider myself lucky to have such a peaceful and often scenic drive.  I only travel on 2-lane country roads, that I occasionally share with farm machinery, or, the occasional deer.

This photo was taken a few years ago during my morning drive to work.  At that time, I was just beginning to become interested in photography.  This was shot with an inexpensive Canon point-and-shoot camera which was my only camera at the time other than my mobile phone.

There are many technical errors in this photo, however, I still like the image.  I pulled behind a small volunteer fire department to get this shot.  The sun was rising and the morning fog had settled into the valley.  I thought the scene was well worth documenting and a great visual delight to start the day.

For this Sunday Snap, I traveled back to 2015…

This photo was taken back in September of 2015 when I was just becoming interested in photography.  I shot this image with a Canon PowerShot SX400 IS which is a point and shoot camera.  I originally purchased this camera to document hiking trips.  That is what spurred my interest in photography.  I still have this camera and enjoy using it on occasion.

The camera lacks the ability to manually set aperture or shutter speed, it doesn’t even have a proper viewfinder, just a screen.  But, I like it none the less!

The subject of today’s snap is an abandoned building about one mile from my home.  It fronts on the same highway that I travel each day during my daily commute.  I wish I knew the history of this building but unfortunately, I don’t.  To me, it has the look of an old country store.  I can imagine a single family running the store on the ground level while living on the second floor above.

Abandoned buildings like this always make me wonder what happened.

How did this building fall into ruins?

Who is the owner?

Why has it been left to be consumed and reclaimed by nature?
