Unexpected Magic During The Morning Commute…

As I’ve mentioned before I live in a rural area in the Foothills of northwestern North Carolina.  Each weekday I commute about 35 miles south to a nearby town for work.  The drive takes about 40 minutes and takes me through mostly rural farmland.

As commutes go, I consider myself lucky to have such a peaceful and often scenic drive.  I only travel on 2-lane country roads, that I occasionally share with farm machinery, or, the occasional deer.

This photo was taken a few years ago during my morning drive to work.  At that time, I was just beginning to become interested in photography.  This was shot with an inexpensive Canon point-and-shoot camera which was my only camera at the time other than my mobile phone.

There are many technical errors in this photo, however, I still like the image.  I pulled behind a small volunteer fire department to get this shot.  The sun was rising and the morning fog had settled into the valley.  I thought the scene was well worth documenting and a great visual delight to start the day.

Weekly Photo Challenge – Experimental

Experimental (1 of 3)

The theme for this week’s WordPress Weekly Photo Challenge is Experimental.  This theme is really a blank slate, it can be interpreted in so many ways.  When I was trying to decide what direction to take this challenge in.  I thought I wanted to experiment with lens flares.  Shooting directly into the sun is something I never intentionally do.  So trying to photograph a subject that is back-lit by the sun is something completely new to me.  I wasn’t sure what to expect, so for me, this is certainly experimental.

Below are a few photos that I took for this week’s WordPress Weekly Photo Challenge “Experimental”
